Hon. Justice I.A. Iyayi-Lamikanra, DSSRS is the Chief Judge of Rivers State.
Her Lordship had her Primary Education in Ibadan and Secondary Education in Lagos and obtained her First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1966 and the West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1972. She attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and graduated in 1978 obtaining a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B). She attended the Nigerian law School between 1978 and 1979. Her Lordship had a successful Legal Practice in Edo State where she worked as a State Counsel, in the Ministry of Justice, Benin City between 1980-1983 and a Legal Officer, Delta Steel Company Limited, Ovwian-Aladja, 1983-1986 before she joined the Rivers State Judiciary as a Senior Magistrate Grade I in 1986, Promoted to Chief Magistrate Grade II in 1988 and in 1991 was Promoted to Chief Magistrate Grade I. She served in various Magisterial District namely: Port Harcourt, Elimgbu, Isiokpo, Emohua and as Chief Magistrate, Administration. In 1998, she was appointed a Judge of the High Court of Rivers State. On the 15th of January, 2016 she was sworn in as Acting Chief Judge of Rivers State and in March, 2016 she was sworn in as the substantive Chief Judge of Rivers State.
The Hon. Chief Judge served as the Chairman, Elections Petitions Tribunal, Nchia and Port Harcourt in 1991. Additionally, the Hon. Chief Judge is currently the Chairman, Rivers State Judicial Service Commission and a Member of the National Judicial Council. Read Less
